The intent in creating a leadership philosophy is to have a place where I can find inspiration and direction as I lead. To create my leadership philosophy, I first reviewed each of my courses, highlighting meaningful ideas and thoughts, and then weaved those notes together in several concise statements. In some ways my statements seem more like a leadership promise than a philosophy. Either way, my summary of what I strive for as I lead is included in the four statements below.
As a leader I will bring people together to facilitate growth and transformation for the fulfillment of human and organization potential. I will begin with inquiry and a listening-first disposition. Creating a space where others find safety, vulnerability, and trust. In doing so we will share ideas of creativity and life-giving influence with one another so beauty, light, and realization may be experienced in the lives we touch.
I will create a space of safety, vulnerability, and trust through healthy dialogue and persuasion that includes selflessness, humility, understanding, emotional intelligence, patience, love, recognition, appreciation, forgiveness, reconciliation, healing, and inspiration.
We will share ideas of creativity and life-giving influence to navigate the complexity of human and organizational relationships and systems – ensuring those we serve are best served through collaboration. We will accept the risks and rewards of what it means to be a learning organization.
I will act with ethical and moral responsibility towards others and myself. I will be curious. I will seek to understand with a researcher’s mind and eye. I will strive towards reason and excellence. I will go above and beyond. I will question the status quo and be bold. I will be generous with what I have to help others grow.
